The 2024-25 Premier League is about to begin. In a Game of Thrones that Manchester City has dominated with great authority, many stories and new talents are gathering in what is currently the best league. We’ll have time to collect all the individual and collective stories that the championship will leave behind, but as a starting point, here are five names that, based on data and their potential as players, we believe have great chances of making a significant career in the Premier League.
Lucas Bergvall (and the others: Odobert, Gray & Moore) – 2006 – Tottenham
Tottenham’s summer can be summed up in one word: youth. Ange Postecoglou’s project has bet everything on some of the most interesting names in the market: Archie Gray, Mike Moore, Wilson Odobert, and Lucas Bergvall. Four great talents with a high potential for growth under the Australian coach. We highlight Lucas Bergvall for his style of play, which initially fits extraordinarily well with his coach’s versatile and multifaceted plans with the ball. A 360º midfielder who stands out for his ease of associating, moving effortlessly, and making the team play in various ways. He doesn’t stand out physically and might take some time to get going, but he has a lot of talent to develop.
Lewis Hall – 2005 – Newcastle
We’re not revealing anything new or trying to. Lewis Hall is destined to be the future left-back for the England national team. Our data, with just 888 minutes played last season, plus the little more than 700 minutes accumulated with Chelsea, reflects a reality: Chelsea let go of a complete footballer. The technical, physical, and tactical possibilities of Lewis Hall could even see him become a midfielder in the future. There’s no more important young defensive project in English football.
Rodrigo Gomes – 2003 – Wolverhampton
One of the most unknown players due to the leap he made, from Braga (via Estoril) to Wolverhampton, but with daring, competitiveness, and boldness very typical of young Portuguese players. He has already left a very good impression in pre-season. Author of 6 goals and 7 assists in the Primeira Liga, the investment becomes clear in just a few plays: physically fast, resilient, and powerful; very vertical, he can play on both wings as either a winger or wing-back. He finishes many of his plays inside the box, not just at the end line. He’s a fantastic signing for future value and resale.
Trey Nioni – 2007 – Liverpool
He still has much to develop physically and in terms of experience, but he has left a great impression in pre-season, and Liverpool hasn’t yet – though there’s still time – made a significant signing in midfield to complement the profiles already present. He plays with a lot of personality, head up, and finds players ahead and between the lines with ease. It’s unclear if he will get many minutes yet, but he’s a prospect with more than notable qualities.
Yankubah Minteh – Brighton – 2005
One of the most significant growth stories is that of Yankubah Minteh, a Gambian footballer who became a revelation in the Eredivisie, with a very strong lower body and great ease in dribbling and depth. The interesting aspect of his arrival in the Premier League is that he joins Brighton, a team that seems perfect for a first landing and better adaptation. A winger who operates equally well with or without space and still has room for improvement in his one-on-ones or shooting at goal.
