Football data: the importance of big data coverage

Driblab's football data coverage exceeds 200,000 players worldwide.

Published:19/01/2023

Data in football is becoming more and more complete and in-depth. The evolution of advanced statistics since its first steps has led all sports management to accept data as an indispensable and always complementary part of the process of talent detection and acquisition in an extreme competition to stay ahead of their competitors. With the resources available, good data coverage opens up a multitude of opportunities for scouting departments, limited to monitoring a number of specific leagues but not all of those that big data applied to football can offer.

Driblab kicks off 2023 with over 200,000 players with minutes and performance in its database across all continents, the broadest coverage of all companies dedicated to analysing performance and scouting talent in the global football industry.

Finding players for all budgets, realities and needs is possible if the coverage accessed reaches as many points as possible and automates that performance with the clearest and most detailed visualisations possible. Finding the next Mohamed Salah is easier if he would easily excel in his home country. This, for example, is a bar chart of expected set-piece and set-piece goals in the Egyptian Premier League.

Such coverage is fully prepared when tools are enabled to power it and turn it into something of great value. With our ‘Elevens’ functionality we can quickly find those players, by position, who have given the best performance within the same competition, a filter that is always interesting in youth competitions of great importance to discover new talents, as is the case of the South American U-20. In this example, from the last tournament held in Chile, we found four players from Ecuador, a country that does not stop producing talent for South America and Europe, as a clear example of an environment that has grown as a great school of players and whose leagues, both professional and international youth, are worth keeping an eye on through data.

We are Driblab, a consultancy specialized in the statistical analysis of players and teams; our work is focused on advising and minimizing risk in professional football decision-making in areas related to talent detection and footballer evaluations. Our database has more than 200,000 players from more than 180 competitions, covering information from all over the world. Here you can learn more about how we work and what we offer.
